Allegation of beating the leader of the volunteer group
Leaders and activists of the local Juba League and Chhatra League have been accused of beating and injuring a leader of the BNP-affiliated Swachchasebak Dal in Daganbhuiyan, Feni. Injured Zahirul Islam (35) is a member secretary of Daganbhuiyan Upazila Swechchhasebak Dal and a businessman of Bairagir Bazar of the Upazila. His condition is serious.
The attack took place at around 10 am on Tuesday at Bairagir Hat in Daganbhuna Upazila. Leaders and activists of the Juba League and Chhatra League also attacked and vandalized his shop at that time. Zahirul is currently undergoing treatment at Chittagong Medical College Hospital.
Citing locals, the police said that some leaders and activists of Juba League and Chhatra League carried out a surprise attack on the e-center of Zahirul's business establishment. When he stepped forward, he was beaten and injured. Zahirul's head was torn off by the blow of the stick. At one point, the attackers smashed computers and printers in his business. When police arrived, the assailants fled the scene. Later, locals rushed Zahirul to Feni General Hospital. The doctor sent him to Chittagong Medical College Hospital as his condition was critical.
However, Abu Hasan, the organizing secretary of Daganbhuiyan Upazila Juba League, denied the allegation of attack on Zahirul and said he did not go to Bairagir Hat. He is not aware of any such incident.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Daganbhuiyan Police Station Hasan Imam said that after hearing about the incident of the beating of a young man and attack on his shop, the police immediately went to the spot and found out the truth. The injured youth has been admitted to the hospital. However, no written complaint was received at the police station till Tuesday evening. Legal action will be taken against the accused if any complaint is received.
